Sailing Conditions
Wind and marine weather for charter planning
We're building first-party weather collection — live wind straight from boats on the water, fed into our own engine to sharpen coastal forecasts. The more boats sharing readings, the better the map gets for everyone.
Live from your instruments
Wind speed and direction from boats actually on the water — NMEA 0183/2000, Signal K.
Sharper coastal forecasts
Dense on-the-water readings fix prediction near coasts, bays, channels, and headlands — exactly where global models are weakest.
Better for the whole sailing community
Every reading you share improves the map for every sailor after you. Owners, charterers, racers, cruisers all welcome.
Wind map
The live wind map is at wind.charter.boats — an animated, terrain-aware forecast you can scrub hour-by-hour. It's a standalone app; route pages on charter.boats also embed a marine forecast for a passage's waypoints.
Where the data comes from
Marine and wind forecasts are currently sourced from Open-Meteo (free, no authentication, ~14-day horizon). There is currently no first-party /api/wind endpoint on charter.boats/api — if you need raw wind data programmatically today, call Open-Meteo's marine and forecast APIs directly.
A documented conditions API — both for submitting readings and querying the improved forecast — will land on this page as the boat-instrument program rolls out.
